The largest of all Nazi Germany's concentration camps, and probably the most depressing site I have traveled to--and a place that should never be forgotten by humanity.

The camp took its German name from the hosting town of Oswiecim. The camp commandant, Rudolf Hoess, testified at the Nurenberg Trials that up to 3 million people had died at Auschwitz, of which over 90% were Jewish.

The prisoners were liberated on January 27, 1945 by the Soviets.
